Dubai: Theme park operator Six Flags said on Tuesday that it has started discussions with the Saudi government to develop a Six Flags theme park in the kingdom.

The discussions follow earlier meetings that were held with the Saudi deputy crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman, while he was travelling in the United States to promote the Saudi Vision 2030

“We are honoured to have this opportunity to bring Six Flags to Saudi Arabia,” John Duffey, president and chief executive of Six Flags, said in a statement. “We look forward to supporting Saudi Arabia’s efforts to expand tourism by creating new world-class entertainment destinations in the Kingdom.”

Dubai Parks and Resorts, which has a GCC exclusivity clause with American theme park operator, said on Tuesday that it will support the development of a Six Flags theme park in Saudi Arabia, under the directive of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Dubai Parks and Resorts approved plans earlier this year to build Six Flags Dubai, which is scheduled to open in Jebel Ali in the fourth quarter of 2019.
