Dubai: A record number of Gulf travellers are visiting Vienna, Austria this year, according to a statement from the Vienna Tourism Board on Thursday.

From January to October, overnight stays from the UAE rose 48.2 per cent compared to the same period last year, at 110,663. Arrivals from the UAE reached 50,891, up 44.8 per cent from the previous year.

Meanwhile, overnight stays from the Saudi market increased 20.4 per cent and arrivals grew 19.4 per cent during the same period.

Vienna saw 13.5 million overnight stays in 2014, of which 295,000 were from the Gulf.

More than 80 per cent of visitors to Vienna come from outside Austria. Of the 13.5 million overnight stays, around 20 per cent were accounted for by German guests and 18 per cent by Austrians, followed by the US, Italy and Russia.

There are 172 destinations that are connected to Vienna with direct flights operated by 70 airlines including Emirates (14 times per week), Etihad Airways/ NIKI and Qatar Airways (both 7 times per week). Royal Jordanian operates flights to Vienna 5 times per week.
