Dubai: Dubai developer Nakheel has signed a Letter of Intent with the US hotel chain Hilton Worldwide to manage a hotel at Jumeirah Village Triangle.

The 18-storey hotel will be operated under the upscale DoubleTree by Hilton brand, Nakheel said in a statement on Wednesday.

The hotel is expected to be a major new feature of Nakheel’s upcoming Al Khail Avenue — a retail, dining and leisure destination. It will be directly linked to the mall’s 350 shops, restaurants and entertainment outlets.

Nakheel awarded the Dh1.5 billion contract to build the mall and hotel complex earlier this month. Construction is expected to begin in October this year, with completion anticipated in 2019.

The hotel will feature 256 rooms (including four suites), a restaurant, coffee shop, lounge, outdoor terrace, pool deck, and gymnasium, as well as a leisure club with preferential membership rates for residents of the Jumeirah Village Triangle community.

Nakheel’s hospitality portfolio includes nearly 5,200 rooms across 14 hotels and serviced apartment complexes in different locations such as Palm Jumeirah, Deira Islands, Ibn Battuta Mall and Dragon City.

Its retail portfolio, meanwhile, includes more than 16 million square feet of leasable space in operation or under development. The developments include Ibn Battuta Mall, Dragon Mart 1 and 2, Nakheel Mall, The Pointe, The Golden Mile, Deira Mall, Deira Islands Night Souk, and Warsan Souk, among others.
