Abu Dhabi: Kerzner International Holdings, a hotel developer and operator whose flagship brand is the Atlantis, announced on Tuesday the appointment of Jean-Gabriel Peres as its new president and chief executive officer.

Peres was formerly the outgoing CEO of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, and oversaw the daily operations of the 16,000-staff hotel management company for 17 years. His role was key in driving the global expansion of the company into Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

Mohammad Al Shaibani, executive director and CEO of Dubai’s Investment Corporation and chairman of Kerzner International, said the new appointment comes as the company plans to expand its geographical footprint to new countries including China and Mexico, among others.

Péres has more than 30 years of international work experience in the upscale hospitality and luxury retail industries. Prior to joining Movenpick, he spent 11 years with Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts. This followed his tenure with engineering firm Matra/Lagardere Group, now known as EADS, where he led strategic partnerships.

Peres holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the ESSEC Business School in Paris. He serves on the boards of several corporations and has been an active member of the World Travel and Tourism Council.
