Dubai: IMG Worlds of Adventure, the indoor theme park that will bring your favourite Cartoon Network and Marvel characters to Dubai when it opens next year, has announced the price of its tickets for adults.

The tickets, which give visitors access to all of the theme park’s rides and attractions, are priced at Dh300, Lennard Otto, chief executive of Dubai-based IMG Theme Park, the owner of IMG Worlds of Adventure, told Gulf News by phone.

“The kids, VIP and fast track [ticket] prices will be announced later this month,” he added.

The ticket price is slightly higher than prices charges by other popular theme parks in the country. At Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, one-day tickets for adults start at Dh250, according to its website. Wild Wadi in Dubai charges Dh275 for adult tickets, while Aquaventure adult tickets cost Dh185.

IMG Worlds of Adventure, which covers an area in excess of 1.5 million square feet, is the world’s largest indoor theme park, according to its owner. Located in Dubailand, it will feature Marvel and Cartoon Network characters and a dinosaur-themed zone.

Last year, IMG Theme Park received a $327 million (Dh1.2 billion) syndicated Islamic loan to fund the $1 billion entertainment centre. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Commercial Bank and Al Hilal Bank were the mandated lead arrangers.

“We have taken Dh1.2 billion through the financing option, then it’s a combination between private equity, land and infrastructure contribution from the owners,” Otto said.

The entertainment centre is on track to open in early 2016, Otto said.

“The external structure is completely constructed and all the civil works are done. We are currently busy testing and commissioning the rides and attractions… a lot of the interior fit-out work is going on,” he said.

In addition to the rides and attractions, the theme park will feature 25 retail and 28 food and beverage outlets, all operated by IMG Theme Park, as well as a 12-screen Novo Cinemas.

The cinema will open about three months after the opening of the entertainment centre, Otto said.

He declined to give the theme park’s exact opening date, but said that it will be announced at the end of this month.

IMG Worlds of Adventure has a capacity to welcome 20,000 visitors per day. It is expected to attract 4.5 million visitors during the first full year of operations, with an equal split between residents and tourists, Otto said.

The theme park could be expanded further, he said. “There are strategic areas within the park where we will be doing certain future developments to make sure we have fresh offerings for many years to come,” he said.

The theme park’s standard opening times are from 10am to 10pm from Sunday to Wednesday, and until midnight from Thursday to Saturday, he said.
