Dubai: Following its announcement last week of a brand new four-star hotel concept, the Jumeirah Group has said that the first Zabeel House property will be located in the Greens.

The hotel, which is set to open in the fourth quarter of 2018, will offer 210 guest rooms, two restaurants, terrace dining around the pool area, and business facilities.

Dubai’s government-owned hotel group said in a statement on Sunday that it had recently signed a management agreement with The Onyx for Development, the owner of a flagship mixed-use development in the Greens.

Jumeirah say that hotel guests can anticipate a “four-star experience, brilliant basics and unexpected extras within an upscale, casual environment.”

The statement adds that the hotel will likely be a “social hub” for the neighbourhood.

Jumeirah say that their second brand will focus on experience and adventure, with each hotel designed in a unique way.

In recent years, younger travellers have started to move away from large international hotel chains and secluded beach resorts, towards hotels that place a greater emphasis on exploration and culture.

This demographic is described by the Dubai Holding subsidiary as “travellers who want to connect meaningfully with their travel destinations.”

Zabeel House also appears to be an attempt by Jumeirah to capture some of the mid-market, as competitor Emaar begins to expand its three- and four-star brands aggressively throughout Dubai.

With five management agreements already signed across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the UK, and a number under discussion, Jumeirah declined to say exactly where the other four hotels would be located, just that they would be positioned in “interesting and exciting” areas, and that there would be a series of announcements throughout early 2018.
