Dubai: Dubai Parks and Resorts, a subsidiary of Meraas Holding, has tied up with Merlin Entertainments to build Legoland Water Park, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The park, which is expected to open next year, will be part of the Legoland Dubai theme park at the Dubai Parks and Resorts development.

The park will feature a half-million gallon wave pool; the Build-A-Raft River where visitors can design and build their own customised raft; the interactive Imagination Station, which lets children build bridges, dams and cities and test their designs against the flow of water, according to the statement.

“With the addition of the Legoland Water Park to our existing offering, we will now have a destination that boasts six components and over 100 rides and attractions,” said Raed Al Nuaimi, chief executive of Dubai Parks and Resorts, in the statement.

Legoland Dubai, which will be the first Legoland in the Middle East, will cover three million square feet made from more than 60 million Lego bricks. It will include over 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions set in six themed lands — Lego City, Adventure, Lego Kingdom, Lego Create, Lego Factory, and Miniland, which will showcase some of the most iconic buildings and landmarks from Dubai and the Middle East in Lego bricks.

In addition to Legoland, Dubai Parks and Resorts will also include Motiongate Dubai and Bollywood Parks Dubai, which will be connected by Riverland Dubai, a retail and entertainment walkway. The development will also feature the Lapita Hotel.

The development in Jebel Ali expects to attract over 6.7 million ticketed visits in 2017, its first full year of operation.
