Dubai: Dubai Parks and Resorts will support the proposed development of a Six Flags theme park in Saudi Arabia, under the directive of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
This directive calls for an exception to Dubai Parks and Resorts’ GCC exclusivity clause with American theme park operator, Six Flags, to help grow tourism and entertainment in the wider GCC region, according to a statement on Tuesday. The exception will apply to Saudi Arabia, underscoring the UAE’s support of the Saudi Vision 2030.
The proposed plan to launch Six Flags in Saudi Arabia is part of the Saudi Vision 2030, which envisions a diversified local economy, the addition of jobs for a growing population, and the creation of more cultural and entertainment centres in the kingdom.
“We are proud to support and contribute to the growth of the theme park industry in the Middle East. We believe that there is significant potential for the industry to expand, and the levels of demand can support several entertainment destinations across the region,” stated Raed Al Nuaimi, chief executive of Dubai Parks and Resorts.
Earlier this year, Dubai Parks and Resorts approved plans to build Six Flags Dubai, which is expected to open in Jebel Ali in the fourth quarter of 2019. It is in the final stages of design, with the ground-breaking work set to start in a few days.
