Dubai: Hotel properties in Dubai may be the most expensive in the Arab world, but they're definitely the most sought after.
Hoteliers in Dubai posted a stellar performance in April when compared to their peers in the region, with occupancy levels averaging at 88 per cent, the highest in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena), according to a new report.
Ernst & Young’s April 2017 Mena Hotel Benchmark Survey Report, released on Tuesday, showed that hotels in the emirate also earned the highest revenue per average room (RevPAR) at $273, an increase of 18.7 per cent from a year earlier.
Room rates in Dubai averaged at $310, also the highest in the region.
EY said Dubai’s hospitality sector posted a positive performance due to the Arabian Travel Market and the Arabian Hotel Investment conference, which attracted a number of guests from across the region.
The hospitality industry in Abu Dhabi, however, didn’t perform as good. Hotels at the capital witnessed a drop in RevPAR by 4.8 per cent in April 2017, following a drop in average daily room rates from $133 in April 2016 to $120 in April 2017.
Occupancy levels in Abu Dhabi, however, went up by 4.5 per cent.
