Dubai: Spinneys, the UAE-based supermarket chain, is closing the Spinneys outlet located near Ramada in Bur Dubai on May 15.

The company said that it decided to close the outlet on Al Mankhool Road because the Spinneys on Trade Centre Road nearby already serves the community.

“The rental contract expired for Spinneys Ramada after 20 years and we decided not to renew as we have a large Spinneys supermarket serving the local community very nearby — Spinneys Trade Centre Road, which is open 24 hours, is within minutes of the old store,” Colette Shannon, communications manager at Spinneys, told Gulf News by email.

The Spinneys Ramada will close at midnight.

Spinneys has 53 stores in the UAE, of which 35 are located in Dubai, including in Deira, Business Bay, Al Khawaneej, Downtown Dubai, Al Ghusais, Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Silicon Oasis, among others.

“We are continuously looking at opportunities for new store openings in the UAE,” Shannon said, but declined to give further details.

Spinneys became a member of Global G. A. P last year, a body that sets standards for the certification of production processes of agricultural products. It said last year that it will only import Global G.A.P.-certified fruits and vegetables from South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Kenya and Europe.
