Dubai: The event always steals attention due to the discounts and bundle offers but, at the same time, consumers are fed up of the same bundles they get every year.

For the last couple of years, low-cost tablets, headphones, power data banks and hard disk drives have been bundled with many products for free.

This year, retailers have become cautious and are offering premium bundles to entice consumers.

Jacky’s Electronics have taken the rights for Yashica — a Japanese manufacturer of cameras. The trademark rights of Yashica are now owned by Hong Kong-based MF Jebsen Group.

“Our bundled offers will have Yashica brand name for headphones, wearable band, smartwatch, mice, Bluetooth headphone, and speakers. We are manufacturing it and monitoring the quality of the products,” said Mahesh Chotrani, assistant vice-president of Jacky’s Electronics.

Sajan K. George, a UAE resident, said that he has come to see the offers and the discounts.

Last year, he was forced to accept the bundled offers even though he has all the bundled products. This year, some retailers are offering branded products, which is very good news.

“Every year, I buy some products from Gitex and this year, I plan to buy a 65-inch TV and a laptop. I will not buy it now as I wait for the last couple of days to get a sweetened deal,” he said.

Tony Abraham, a UAE resident, said that if the offers are with premium bundles, he does not mind shelling some money as bargain hunters come to the event to grab good deals.

Nilesh Khalkho, CEO of Sharaf DG, said that consumers have responded well when the price offers and free gifts are perceived to be offering good value.

“In the last few campaigns we have run, we have seen an excellent response from consumers. We believe that the gifts we have on offer for customers this year would be of significant value and differentiated from the competition,” he said.

“We have segmented our offerings by the budgets and ranges that customers are looking for, and we have ensured that we have extremely compelling offerings at every price point that customers are looking for,” he said.

Srikant Gokhale, CEO of Emax, said that they have started something unique for the customers. Any customer who spends more than Dh3,000 will get an Emax VIP card, an exclusive loyalty membership programme, offering a wide range of exciting privileges for three years.

“Customers who spend more than Dh5,000 will get a chance to spin the wheel to win prizes such as iPhone 7, Samsung mobile, iPads, tablets, TVs and gift vouchers per hour,” he said.

Nadeem Khanzadah, head of omnichannel retail at Jumbo Group, said that they will be offering a mix of big discounts, bundle offers and premium giveaways.

“Every customer is different with some opting for discounts and others choosing bundle offers with premium giveaways and we always ensure that our offerings are tailored to all our customers’ requirements,” he said.

Rather than receiving discounted prices, he said that most of the customers feel that they get better deals with the bundled products as most of these bundles are of high value.

Jumbo is offering Ferrari bags, premium sunglasses, and watches, Sony headphones, Jabra speakers, hard disks etc.

“These premium products are adding value to customers who are getting more than just price discounts as it lends value to their lifestyle. The average discount on any product is subjective to the product category it belongs to and what stage in the product lifecycle it currently is in,” Khanzadah said.

Although discounts vary by category, he said that Jumbo always endeavour to offer the best value to our customers, be it in the form of bundle offers, deals or premium giveaways. Shoppers can expect discounts of 40 per cent and 50 per cent on selected products.
