Dubai: Dubai based Marka’s fashion division has picked up the rights for the Australian plus-sized brand City Chic.

“Plus-sized women around the world demand unique and glamorous options, and in the Middle East and the UAE women are very fashion forward and seek the latest retail experience,” said Phil Ryan, President at the retail brand.

Marka will launch three City Chic stores locally before the end of the year, with the first opening at Dubai Festival City.

Specialty Fashion Group acquired City Chic in 2006 and grew the label in Australia from six to 79 stores in four years. It currently operates 100 stores across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, as well as having a presence in online shopping. In the US, City Chic is stocked in 50 Nordstroms and 91 Macy’s stores.

Since inception in 2014, Marka has launched four fashion brands in the UAE; Laurèl, Weill, Essential Anterwerp and Sonia by Sonia Rykiel.

“City Chic is a fashion powerhouse and a global leader in its market of plus-size fashion,” said Nick Peel, CEO of Marka. “This is an important and growing retail segment and we are delighted to partner them to address this important gap in the GCC’s fashion scene.”
