Dubai: Qatar index fell more than 3 per cent, hitting its lowest level in six weeks, before ending flat after the unexpected resignation of Sepp Blatter as Fifa president.

“We saw a reaction in the opening, but later you had some buyers to seize the opportunity in some names,” Sebastien Henin, head of asset management at The National Investor said.

Qatar Exchange Index fell as much as 11,797.25, before ending almost steady at 12,182.09.

Meanwhile, Qatar, which is slated to host the 2022 world cup, has denied any wrongdoing in the bidding process. It is not yet clear whether Qatar faces any serious risk of losing the rights.

Ezdan Holding ended 2.58 per cent lower at 17.25 Qatari riyals, while Ahli Bank ended 8.82 per cent lower at 424.4 Qatari riyals.

General Insurance ended 3.42 per cent lower at 56.5 Qatari riyals.
