Indian courier company DTDC acquires UAE’s Eurostar Express

DTDC holds 52 per cent and Eurostar holds 33 per cent stake in the joint venture with the rest 15 per cent owned by DTDC’s local partner

Dubai: Door-To-Door Courier (DTDC) Global Express Pte Ltd, a global courier and cargo company headquartered in Singapore with strong operations in India, has recently formed a joint venture with Eurostar Express, a Dubai-based diversified conglomerate.

Following the acquisition, it has recently introduced a door-to-door courier service in the UAE.

The joint venture in which DTDC holds 52 per cent and Eurostar holds 33 per cent stake with the rest 15 per cent owned by DTDC’s local partner, represents the first foreign acquisition by an Indian Courier Company.

Subhasish Chakraborty, Chairman and Managing Director of DTDC said: “We are excited on this new development and will leverage this acquisition to gain greater market share, DTDC is also exploring the possibility of taking its other value-added, premium products to these markets.”

DTDC is a household name in India and has been building its global presence for last few years. It provides services to over 240 international locations through various arrangements such as 100 per cent subsidiaries, Joint Ventures and International Master Franchises. Apart from the UAE, it also has its own offices in USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Singapore and China.

Eurostar Express is one of the subsidiary companies of the $500 million (Dh1.8 billion) Eurostar Group headquartered in Dubai. The group comprises of businesses in the domains of trading, services and real estate.

The Group has over 25 retail showrooms in the UAE region and business operations across 50 countries worldwide, and has established itself as a pioneer and market leader in the digital satellite receivers industry.

Post the joint venture, DTDC’s UAE network has a team of 100-odd professionals and a fleet of about 60 vehicles. The organisation will offer same day delivery, pick-up and return services all over the UAE for vital shipments, delivery of shipments between major cities within UAE in three hours, “Bullet Service” to all over UAE within 4 hours, pre-paid services and many more.

“The acquisition allows DTDC to combine its strength with Eurostar and penetrate & consolidate its presence all over the Middle East including GCC and Mena areas, more comprehensively.

It has enabled more feet on street, robust infrastructure and quality delivery capabilities for DTDC in developed markets such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi,” said Suresh Bansal, Director and head of International Business of DTDC.

DTDC was founded by Subhasish Chakraborty in 1990. Within a short span, through its business associates, the company expanded its delivery network across the country, thereby creating one of India’s Largest Domestic Delivery Networks. Today, DTDC stands as a global courier company with its Headquarters based in Singapore. DTDC is one of the largest companies with strong operations in the Indian Express industry.

It has over 420 own offices and over 6175 channel partners (Franchisees) spread across the country monitored through various regional offices.

DTDC serves and handles 11 million consignments per month. It can also be credited with pioneering the franchisee concept for the courier industry in India, and today has the largest franchisee network in the country enabling it to cover over 10,000 pin codes across the nation.
