Dubai: The implementation of value-added tax (VAT) and how to deal with it will be the dominant themes at this year’s Big 5 construction industry show, which opens Sunday (November 26) in Dubai. Given the scale of the projects currently in the pipeline in the UAE, the impact of the tax will be felt almost immediately as soon as it gets rolled out.

The industry and its many players have been participating at VAT-related seminars to get as much clarity on what they should be doing and how to be VAT-ready from the get-go. Sources, however, say that further understanding of the implementation processes will attained only through the actual implementation.

As in previous editions, all the many arms of the construction and allied sectors will be there in strength at the Big 5. This year could see VAT specialists doing the rounds of the exhibition halls and firming up their contacts with the many industry players.

Specialist summits will be held alongside, including on best practices, as well as on integrating solar power into the process.
