Dubai: Construction of the Umm Hurrair Hospital in Bur Dubai, spanning 115,000 square feet over seven storeys and three basement floors, will be completed by 2014. The 94-bed facility represents a joint venture between Abu Dhabi's Lifeline Hospital Group and Mir Hashem Khoory (MHK) Group.

The former will operate and manage the hospital. This is its second facility in Dubai, after the Modern Lifeline Hospital on Shaikh Zayed Road.

Having launched operations in Abu Dhabi in 2007 through a hospital, it has since branched out into Muscat, Sohar and Salalah in Oman. There are plans to add to the network with locations in Qatar and in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

Progressing well

"The development is progressing well and we expect to be fully operational and welcome our first patients by early 2014," said Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, managing director of the Abu Dhabi entity.

The joint venture is also looking at other projects both within the local health care space and in the region.

"The Mir Hashem Khoory Group has identified a number of opportunities in the UAE health care market, and we are delighted to have an opportunity with Umm Hurrair Hospital to expand further," said Shafiq Mir Hashim Khoury, MHK executive director.
