Dubai: Property developer Nakheel has awarded a Dh160 million contract for the construction of its hotel at Ibn Battuta Mall, according to a statement on Wednesday.

UAE-based United Engineering Construction will build the hotel, which is part of the developer’s 28,000 square metre expansion of Ibn Battuta Mall. The expansion will add 150 shops to the complex, which already includes 270 shops, 50 restaurants and a 21-screen cinema.

Earlier this month, Nakheel signed a management agreement with UK-based Premier Inn to run the 372-room hotel, which will feature a restaurant, bar, a Costa coffee store, a rooftop swimming pool and gym. It will be linked by a pedestrian bridge to the Dubai Metro station and to the mall.

The hotel is set to open in 2016.

Nakheel is planning to have nine hotels across Dubai over the next five years. Last month, the developer said that Accor will manage its 250-room hotel at Dragon Mart, set to open this year. In February, the company launched over 500 luxury residences at The Palm Tower, a hotel and residential complex on Palm Jumeirah. It also plans to bring hotels to Deira Islands and International City.
