Jumbo sets up shop at Deira's Night Souq
Merchandise in mid-priced category on offer
Dubai: After malls and high streets, the souq is catching the attention of electronics retailers. Jumbo Electronics has set up shop at Deira's Night Souq, part of the attractions during the Dubai Shopping Festival.
"We will have access to a well-defined visitor base — comprising primarily UAE and GCC nationals as well as Asian expatriates — frequenting the souq," said a Jumbo spokesperson. "There isn't a crowd of other electronics and tech retailers represented there at the moment. That's an advantage."
Keeping in mind the visitor profile, the merchandise on offer will predominantly be in the mid-priced category backed up by price-offs or package deals.
"There are some volume-sellers such as mobile phones or notebooks which do not require a specialist retail setting such as a store," the spokesperson said.
"By being physically there, it creates an opportunity for Jumbo to tap into that buyer's interest. Retailers have to be where their potential shoppers are, and even in temporary locations."
