Abu Dhabi: Aldar Properties said Monday it will open a side street next to the upcoming Central Market, which is located near the intersection of Khalifa Street and Airport Road.

The Dh5 billion project, which is due to be completed in 2012, saw various stores, residential buildings and hotels located in the area affected by the construction. That led to 30 store owners sending complaints and queries to Aldar.

"We received complaints and queries from approximately 30 shops about the opening of this side street. But we do not want to rush into opening it without making sure that all construction debris has been cleared.

"We have a very tough standard when it comes to safety, not only for our crew but also members of the public," a representative of Aldar, who declined to be named, explained.

However, as each phase of the construction of the 490,000sqm project designed by Foster and Partners concluded, several noted that the initial downturn has begun to stabilise.

When completed, the three-tower project will include a mixture of up-market retail, business, residential and leisure facilities, in addition to 5,000 parking spaces.
