For Dubai’s residents, it’s one sign that the heat is getting to them.

Nearly 50 per cent of households in Dubai — 40 per cent being tenants in apartments — had issues with their air-conditioning, according to an online poll conducted by MoveSouq.com in association with Imdaad, the facilities management company. This was clearly the top maintenance issue for residents over the last six months, and followed by those related to sewage, electrical problems, thin walls and defective water heaters.

Apart from air-conditioning, each of the other listed maintenance issues had a 20 per cent weightage as respondents’ main maintenance issue.

The survey, conducted among 150 Dubai based residents, found 83 per cent of respondents faced at least one maintenance issue in their home in the first-half of the year.

“The results of this survey gives us a better understanding of the maintenance requirements of homeowners in the UAE, which range from basic AC issues to plumbing needs,” said Jamal Lootah, CEO of Imdaad.

The survey results also show that on average, each Dubai resident faced two maintenance problems during the past six months. But less than 60 per cent reached out to professional maintenance companies for help.

The remaining stated they either fixed the problem themselves or did not fix it at all. Also, the survey found 40 per cent of Dubai tenants have to fully cover any expenses for maintenance services in their homes, whereas almost 50 per cent state their landlords fully cover the costs. Another 10 per cent share the costs equally with their landlords.
