Dubai: The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, (Shurooq), yesterday unveiled Al Noor Island, its latest tourism and leisure development. Located in Khalid Lagoon, the Dh80 million island extends over 45,470 square metres.

It will feature The Butterfly House, which is inspired by butterflies’ natural environment, a pedestrian bridge that will serve as an entrance to the island, a Literature Pavilion, a children’s playground and an egg-shaped OVO Art Sculpture.

Noor Island is expected to open by the end of this year.

“The project comes as part of our commitment to develop the emirate, raise its economic and social merits and reinforces its position as a leading cultural, tourism and investment destination in the region that serves the ambition of its residents and visitors and meets their interests,” said Shaikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Shurooq, in a statement.

Shurooq has developed destinations like Al Qasba, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Montazah — Amusement and Water Park, The Flag Island, Heart of Sharjah. Others are currently underway, such as Al Jabal Resort, The Chedi Khor Fakkan and Kalba eco-tourism project.
