Nakheel has gone in for a bit of organisational rejigging, by creating a new department as well as confirming new senior management appointments.

The “community planning and management” department brings together two Nakheel functions that are a “natural fit with one another.” The result will be enhanced services for customers and investors, the developer added in a statement. Currently, 270,000 people live in Nakheel communities.

Fawzi Al Shehhi will be the Managing Director of the new department. He has been with Nakheel since 2011 and previously held the position of director - development control and urban planning.

The other appointment is that of Omar Khoory as Managing Director of Nakheel Malls. He will lead the strategy, operations, leasing and planning for all of the retail developments. He joined Nakheel in 2007, holding various retail-facing roles including director of Nakheel Malls, during which time he oversaw the delivery of Dragon Mart 2, the first phase expansion at Ibn Battuta Mall and Golden Mile Galleria on Palm Jumeirah.

Nakheel is set to become the region’s biggest retail developer, through a Dh16 billion expansion that will bring its total retail space to more than 17 million square feet. The company has 18 projects.
