Welcare World Health Systems has selected a partner to design its 150-bed hospital project in Dubai Healthcare City, company officials said.

The project is known as the Creek Hospital Dubai, they said. It will cost Dh300 million, inclusive of land and building.

Welcare is the healthcare consultancy and management arm of the Varkey Group. It will work with Cansult Limited to design the Creek Hospital. This will be the group's second hospital in Dubai Healthcare City and will be positioned as a key general healthcare provider in the market, they said.

"It is our intention to extend the reputation of Welcare Hospital to Dubai Healthcare City," said Sunny Varkey, group chairman.

"Welcare has long been known for offering high quality, ethical medicine and for having some of the most qualified doctors in the UAE. We intend to continue that tradition of excellence through our new facilities."

Welcare World previously entered into an agreement with Dubai Healthcare City to develop the City Hospital, a 210-bed facility with a special interest in cardiology and orthopaedics.

The hospital is under design by a leading US company, Ellerbe Becket, and is scheduled to start operations by mid-2007.
