‘Encouraging'

"We are pleased to announce an increase in jewellery sales at our Abu Dhabi International Airport travel retail outlets in the first quarter of 2010. This has been due to the growing number of tourists visiting the UAE capital as well as an increase in the number of transit passengers, and of course due to the return of consumer confidence in buying jewellery," Karim Merchant, CEO and managing director of Pure Gold Jewellers, said in a statement.

Pure Gold Jewellers operates the gold and diamond jewellery stores in the three terminals covered by Abu Dhabi Duty Free.

Huraiz Bin Huraiz, chief commercial officer of Abu Dhabi Airport Company, said: "Abu Dhabi Airports Company has been working with Pure Gold as its exclusive Gold and Jewellery concessionaire since 2008 and we are extremely pleased that, in that time, a continued and corresponding rise in Abu Dhabi International's passenger traffic has also translated into encouraging sales growth."
