Food prices marginally down ahead of Ramadan
Prices of basic commodities has dropped marginally at stores in Dubai and Abu Dhabi ahead of Ramadan, data supplied by the Ministry of Economy showed yesterday.

Dubai: Prices of basic commodities has dropped marginally at stores in Dubai and Abu Dhabi ahead of Ramadan, data supplied by the Ministry of Economy showed on Tuesday.
Consumers can expect to pay less for a litre of Al Ain fresh milk at Union Cooperative Society and LuLu stores in Abu Dhabi and at Union Cooperative, Carrefour and LuLu stores in Dubai.
The price of locally produced eggs dropped at both Carrefour and Union Cooperative stores in Abu Dhabi.
The price of cheese, white bread and cocoa also went down at stores in the capital city. The price of Masafi mineral water also dropped at LuLu stores in Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi shoppers can also expect to pay less for one kilogram of black olives imported from Lebanon at Union Cooperative, Carrefour and Lulu stores.
Price of onions imported from India increased slightly at Union Cooperative in Abu Dhabi and Dubai but remained at Dh1.65 at LuLu stores in Dubai.
Butter
The price of Lurpak butter imported from Denmark remained at Dh10.50 at Union Cooperative stores in Abu Dhabi and and at at Lulu and Carrefour stores in Dubai. The price of the butter has remained relatively stable since June 30.
The price of basmati rice imported from Pakistan dropped at Carrefour in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi while the cost of white flour decreased from Dh5.95 to Dh2.75 for two kilograms at Lulu in Abu Dhabi but increased from Dh2.70 to Dh5.95 at Union Cooperative stores in Dubai, compared to August 11 prices.
Tomatoes imported from Jordan went up from Dh1.90 on July 14 to Dh2.40 at Union Cooperative stores and Dh2.90 at Carrefour stores this week.
The Ministry of Economy did not supply information on the cost of meat, chicken and fish this week.
On August 11, a drop in the price of beef was reported but fish and mutton increased on July 24 and July 30.
Union Cooperative Society this week announced that it would slash the prices of basic commodities by at least 25 per cent in observance of Ramadan.
