Basic food prices remain unchanged
Consumers won't have to fork out much more for basic commodities this week as prices remain largely unchanged, according to data supplied by the Ministry of Economy.

The cost of red onions imported from India remained the same at stores in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, increasing by 5 fils at Al Ittihad Cooperative Society.
The price of white flour remained largely the same barring a dramatic increase from Dh4.75 on August 26 to Dh8.15 for two kilogrammes at Carrefour in Dubai.
The price of white sugar stayed the same while cost of fresh beef increased slightly at Carrefour and LuLu Stores in both emirates.
The cost of fresh milk dropped at all stores in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, along with the cost of yoghurt. The price of apples imported from South Africa fell slightly at LuLu stores in Dubai while cost of corn oil imported from Saudi Arabia also dropped at Carrefour stores in the emirate.
The cost of fabric softeners went down slightly at LuLu stores in Abu Dhabi. Items used in preparing desserts such as custard powder, dumpling mix, creme caramel and canned fruits dropped at Carrefour stores.
The price of white bread remained largely on par with the costs recorded in previous weeks.
In a statement issued this week, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry said food prices continued their upward surge in the first two quarters of 2008.
The trend, which began in 2006 and has since continued unabated, widened to include food items such as oils and fats during the first two quarters of the year, the chamber said.
