The Saudi market shows even bigger potential with a projected growth to Dh6.70 billion by 2017.

Last year, the Saudi perfume market size totalled Dh4.24 billion and is expected to rise to Dh4.64 billion in 2013.

Think your perfume smells good? Well, it’s not all a bunch of roses. Mixed right into that sophisticated scent in the fancy bottle are ingredients that come from the Civet cat’s bottom and ambergris from whale vomit.

That other whiff of animal in your perfume could be musk secreted from the sheath gland of the musk deer or a dash of castoreum from glands in the groin of the beaver.

Once mixed with other ingredients and chemistry does its magic, these smelly elements actually give “body” to the fragrance, perfumers say.
