Dubai: PRO ECUADOR, the formal trade and investment promotion organisation of the Republic of Ecuador, said on Monday, it is targeting a 31 per cent increase in its non-oil exports as the organisation aims to further bolster its exports of flowers, banana and other processed food to the UAE.

The total value of Ecuador’s non-oil exports to the UAE as of the third quarter of 2013 reached $3.65 million (Dh13.4 million), according to the organisation, whereas Ecuador’s non-oil exports to the UAE last year expanded by 11 per cent as its value increased from $4.4 million in 2011 to $4.91 million.

“The UAE is one of the key destinations in the Middle East for Ecuadorian products,” Hussam Hassan, Head of the Ecuadorian Trade Office in Dubai, said in a statement, adding that Ecuador is aiming to further increase its exports of traditional products to the UAE as it has generated major revenues for Ecuador.

PRO ECUADOR has also entered into a strategic partnership with Dubai Exports and Dubai FDI, the export promotion agency and the foreign investment office of Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) respectively, to further promote exports and investments between the two economies.

In 2013, three quarters worth of Ecuadorian flower exports to the UAE increased by 86 per cent while exports of banana jumped 59 per cent.
