Dubai: Exhibitors at a show aimed at the amusement and leisure industry were focused on selling 7D theatres and gaming technology to clients in the Middle East. The technology creates experiences in rides simulation that includes motion, light, wind and a curved screen to enhance the gaming or viewing experience and make it more interactive.

"This is the next generation of interactive and immersive entertainment," said Gabi Salabi, vice-president of business development at Montreal-based Triotech Amusement. The company is targeting family entertainment centres, amusement parks, museums, zoos and science centres where 7D can be used for edutainment purposes.

The technology has been in use in the West for several years. Teenagers were lined up at the theatre to experience the 7D effect, which was on display at the Dubai Entertainment Amusement and Leisure Show.

"We'll have several systems installed in the next 12 months in the Middle East," said Salabi about the technology, which costs about Dh375,000.

"The Middle East has high appreciation for leisure and entertainment. There is a culture of family enjoying a day out together — it's an obvious market for us."

During the show, dinosaurs came to life, roaring and clawing at bemused passers-by. The simulation dinosaur figures work with motion-sensors and remote controls, said Ekin Zheng, manager at the China-based Zigong City Dragon Culture and Arts Company.

Two Dubai-based parks have arleady signed up for the Jurassic monsters, she said.
