Dubai: In cooperation with the US Department of Commerce, the UAE will host “Implementation of Green Building Standards” Conference, which will be held from May 19 to 21 at Grand Hayat Hotel, under the patronage of DR Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahd, Minister of Environment and Water, and Chairman of UAE Standardisation and Metrology Authority.

At the three-day conference, a number of world experts, regulators, Gulf and international standardisation authorities and industry experts will assess the success of green building standards, regulations and code implementation in US, UAE and Gulf.

Two rounds of roundtable discussions will bring together US green building industry representatives with officials from the UAE and the Gulf.

Growth

The green building materials market is growing in double digits. A recent study by Research Navigant, a leading market research company, estimates the green buildings materials market at $116 billion (Dh425.7 billion) in 2013. The market is expected to grow to more than $256 billion by 2020.

The study attributed the fast growing market to a number of factors including mature green building legislations, and standards and environmental building materials initiatives.

According to the institute for Building Efficiency, the value of energy efficient commercial buildings increase by 17 per cent when resold, rent value by 0.8 per cent to 38 per cent, occupancy rate between 0.9 per cent to 18 per cent and net operating income by 0.2 per cent to 5.8 per cent, while reducing operational costs by 38 per cent.
