Dubai: Rixima FZ LLC yesterday started work on a dedicated Dh700 million student accommodation project at Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), the world's only free zone dedicated to international higher education.

Scheduled to be completed in September 2011, the project will house 2,800 students studying at DIAC. It is the first stand-alone student accommodation to be built in Dubai.

The ground breaking ceremony was attended by Dr Ayoub Kazim, executive director of Dubai International Academic City. The ceremony took place just one month after the launch of the Rixima Student Accommodation project.

During the ceremony, Zoltan Katona, general manager of Rixima FZ LLC announced that a time capsule would be buried in the foundations of the student accommodation.

The capsule will contain a selection of everyday items from modern Dubai that will provide a snapshot of life in Dubai today for future generations.

A competition is to be held to identify which items should be included in the time capsule.
