Dubai Nakheel, Dubai's master-developer, has announced that it has started taking bookings from the tenants wishing to lease shops at the new Dragon Mart Expansion Mall, Dragon 2.

The booking started on the 25 of this month, where it has experienced a huge demand from the tenants and the management has booked 35 per cent of the total lettable area more than one million square feet.

The Dragon Mart expansion is located to the north of the existing Dragon Mart in the International City. It is a mixed use property that includes multistorey car park, shopping mall, outdoor plaza and hotel.

The expansion design will provide more than 4,500 car spaces to the complex. The project is designed by Dar Al Handasah and most the construction packages are now in the tender process.

The multistorey car park is four stories high independent building linked to the Shopping Mall by pedestrian bridges. The building is designed for smooth and easy traffic circulation to accommodate up to 1600 cars.

The bids for the construction of the Multistory Car Park were opened on December 25, 2011 and the tenders are currently under technical and commercial evaluation.

The estimated construction period for the Multistory Car Park building is nine months.

The mall expansion is a shopping mall of 1.7 million square feet on two levels. The mall is designed to serve patrons from the International City, Ned Al Hamar, Al Warqaa and beyond.

Tender

The retail mix includes different retail outlets such as hypermarket, cinemas, kids' amusement area, food court and fine dining restaurants. Currently the tender for the construction of the Shopping Mall is in progress. The bids opening date is 15 January 2012.

The External Plaza is located between the exiting Dragon Mart and the new expansion. It is designed to serve as link between the two shopping malls with lively activities such as retail, café, restaurants provided within beautiful landscape environment. The plaza will enhance the shopping experience for the Dragon Complex area and will provide new dynamic to the International city. The design package is complete and will be issued for tender shortly.

In addition, the Dragon Mart expansion will feature three stars Hotel with 240-room capacity serving both the existing Dragon Mart Mall and the new Dragon Mart expansion mall patrons and shoppers.

It is designed to accommodate 246 rooms over eight levels. The hotel is directly linked to the Dragon Mart expansion mall and the external plaza. The hotel design package is complete and will be issued for tender shortly.
