Muscat: Oman has awarded a 706.3 million Omani riyal (Dh6.7 billion) tender for a new building at Muscat International Airport.

The Tender Board on Monday awarded the first stage of the airport project, but the winning bidder's name has been withheld.

The project is expected to be completed in 38 months. The new building, covering 332,000 square metres, will have a capacity of 12 million passengers annually.

The new terminal with world-class standards will have 104 check-in counters to serve passengers.

The counters will have state-of-the-art technologies specially designed to complete travel procedures rapidly.

Features

The main building, 460 metres long, is provided with all the services that ensure safe processing of passengers' transactions, flight bookings and hotel reservations and a four-star hotel with 90 rooms which may be expanded.

The hotel rooms will have all the amenities that are available at top hotels, as well as duty free shops. The new terminal includes three wings for aircraft and passenger service.
