Abu Dhabi:

Universal Hospital, a new multi-speciality hospital built in the capital at a cost of Dh250 million has now become operational, its managing director announced at a news conference yesterday. The opening of the new hospital is likely to help boost medical tourism in the oil-rich emirate.

“The new hospital has a capacity to handle 1,600 outpatients a day. Currently, it is a 168-bed hospital, which can be upgraded to a 200 bed-hospital. We are targeting to treat patients from not just the UAE, but across the GCC states — in fact, we have already started receiving patients from Yemen and Oman,”

Dr. Shabeer Nellikode told reporters. “All departments at the hospital are currenly operational, including lab and diagnostics.”

He said Universal Hospital’s specialities include neurology, treatment of women’s disorders, cardiology, urology, gynaecology, paediatrics and sports medicine.

“We are accepting all major health insurance cards,” said Nellikode.

Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company (Adnic) yesterday became the first insurance provider to sign an agreement with the Universal Hospital. Under the agreement, Adnic will offer its medical insurance customers access to Universal Hospital’s state-of-the-art facilities. Adnic has partnerships with more than 1,700 healthcare facilities and pharmacies across the UAE.
