Dubai: Real estate developer Union Properties (UP) has awarded a Dh940 million contract for part of Dubai's Motor City development to the regional arm of Multiplex Group, the company building London's long-overdue Wembley stadium.

The contract for Auto Mall, the 38-storey office tower and three level auto-showroom was handed to Nasa Multiplex, the UAE construction division of Australian construction giant Multiplex.

Nasa Multiplex already includes Dubai Marina and 15 residential towers for the first three phases of the Burj Dubai in its portfolio. Multiplex Construction's global portfolio features A$8 billion worth of total work in hand, spread over 40 projects in Australia, the UK, the Middle East and New Zealand.

According to a Multiplex statement, the DubaiLand project will be delivered on a lump sum contract to Union Properties, for whom Multiplex has already completed The Tower and Creekside Apartments projects and is currently designing and building the 86- storey, Dh1 billion Index Building in Dubai.

"Construction at Motor City is due to commence this month with expected completion in late 2008," the company announced in a statement.

The 30 million square foot Motor City will feature motor-related corporate, retail, residential and entertainment options under one roof. The Dh4 billion project's four components include Dubai Autodrome, Formula One World, Business Park and Residential District.
