Dubai: Drake & Scull International (DSI) said on Monday it has signed a Dh110 million contract to complete the MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) redevelopment work for the Mall of the Emirates (MoE) in Dubai.

The contract was awarded by Khansaheb Civil Engineering, the main contractor for the project.

As per the agreement, DSI will procure, install, test and commission all MEP works at Mall of the Emirates, the company said in a statement. It added that the redevelopment process will be undertaken in phases with work on Phase 1 already under way, and the whole exercise due to be completed by 2015.

Under the theme ‘Evolution 2015’, Mall of the Emirates recently announced its multi-stage redevelopment project at an estimated cost of Dh1 billion. The redevelopment will include a new fashion district, luxury retail and sports and leisure precinct, alongside unique dining concepts and an expansion of its cinemas.

“DSI is well-positioned to undertake significant construction and infrastructure projects as Dubai gears up to host the 2020 World Expo,” Khaldoun Tabari, vice chairman and CEO of DSI, said in a statement.

In 2013, DSI was awarded a series of projects, the latest being a Dh403 million joint venture agreement between DSI and Habtoor Leighton Specon to provide MEP works for the Al Habtoor City in Dubai. DSI was awarded UAE contracts in 2013 valued at Dh1.6 billion.
