Abu Dhabi: Shanghai Xian Dai Architectural Design (Group) Co, China's largest architectural design company by revenue, has opened a branch in Abu Dhabi.

It has partnered with the Bin Abbood Group to achieve business diversification and to bid for projects in the region.

"We are attracted by the boundless potential of the local market. We will bid for contracts that we deem attractive," Honghua Yan, chairman of Shanghai Xian Dai, told Gulf News.

"As a first step into the Middle East market, the Abu Dhabi branch will act as a channel through which we will explore the opportunity of collaboration with the clients and local architectural design companies."

Last year, the company's revenue was about $600 million (Dh2.2 billion) of which less than 10 per cent came from global operations. Shanghai Xian Dai has a presence in more than 20 countries. On an average, the company wins more than 60 per cent of the projects it bids for in China.

"Xian Dai Group is a state-owned company with a history of architectural design for decades. During the past 60 years, especially since China adopted its reform and opening-up policy, we have completed a number of big projects to meet the growing demands of the country's development," Honghua said.

He said Xian Dai has designed nearly 200 skyscrapers more than 200 metres high. Its other projects include nearly 180 five-star hotels, airport terminals, sports stadiums, hospitals and university campuses.

Xian Dai employs more than 4,000 professionals. Its services encompass the whole lifecycle of a project including pre-stage consultation.
