Abu Dhabi: Cansult Middle East and Maunsell, the region's leading engineering services firms, yesterday announced their merger, stating the new company will generate annual revenues of more than $100 million in the Gulf.

The new firm will be called Cansult Maunsell, with headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

"Cansult worldwide will join the AECOM Group and Cansult Middle East will join Maunsell, an operating company of AECOM but all come under AECOM," said Nigel Robinson, Chief Executive, AECOM Group.

Los Angeles headquartered AECOM is the world's leading infrastructure design firm with annual revenues of $3.4 billion and 28,000 employees globally. It now has 17 operating companies worldwide.

"With the merger, we will now have combined revenues of over $100 million and that will be doubled in two to three years."

The two companies have been involved in a number of highly prestigious construction projects in the region, such as the Abu Dhabi Mall and Trade Centre and the Dubai Studio City Sound Stages.

From a management perspective, they will operate as one, but contractually they will serve clients through their respective agreements separately until the new company is formed. "However, we will bid together for new projects," said Robinson.

Maunsell is a fast growing engineering service pro-vider in the Middle East and Asia Pacific region. Maunsell's revenues for the Middle East more than doubled in the past four years to $47 million.

"The new operating company will draw on the strengths of both established companies to better service clients and capitalise on the exceptional growth and work opportunities in the region," said Jim Metcalfe, President and Chief Executive of Cansult.
