Abu Dhabi: Baniyas Investment and Development Company (BID) yesterday said the Abu Dhabi Municipality has awarded the Al Jaber Group the Dh205 million infrastructure contract for the three phases of the Bawabat Al Sharq project.

Bawabat Al Sharq is a community located in Bani Yas City near Abu Dhabi International Airport on the Al Ain road.

"Al Jaber Group will be responsible for executing all the infrastructure works of the project including road works, services, electrical network, water network, sewage network, drainage network, landscape, etcetera. Infrastructure works for Bawabat Al Sharq have already started and will be completed in June 2012," BID said in a statement.

Commenting on the development, Nabeel Farhat, Partner with Al Fajer Securities, told Gulf News that the contract from the Abu Dhabi Municipality indicates government's commitment to continue developing the infrastructure of Abu Dhabi.

"The Abu Dhabi government is stimulating the emirate's economy through spending," said Farhat.

Enhancing image

"The Al Jaber Group is a leader in the infrastructure and contracting sectors in the UAE and the region, and our selection for the Bawabat Al Sharq project will further enhance our image and reputation to be the contractor of choice for major clients with outstanding projects," said Obaid Khaleefa Jaber Al Murri, chairman of the Al Jaber Group. "We made sure that Bawabat Al Sharq was developed by the best and most prominent contractors in the region and awarding the project's infrastructure contract to the Al Jaber Group will guarantee a superior quality of execution and timely delivery," said Wael Tawil, BID's chief executive officer.

Spread over 108 hectares in Bani Yas City, the Dh3 billion Bawabat Al Sharq project is a mix of modern residential, retail, entertainment and sporting facilities.

The project includes premium apartments, villas, health care facilities, an international school, a FIFA standard football stadium and a shopping mall. BID was established in 2005 as a majority-owned subsidiary of Bani Yas Sports Club.
