Eco-friendly product is the first of its kind, in the UAE and the region, that works on solar energy
Abu Dhabi: The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) has become the first bank in the region to design an ATM [automated teller machine] that works using solar energy.
"NBAD is always striving to be the first bank to do the best in serving the community by launching eco-friendly products and services," Ahmad Al Naqbi, Head of Channels and Electronic Banking, said. "We are very proud of our solar powered ATM as it is the first of its kind in the UAE and the region," he added.
According to Haman Jalili, Editor of the Corporate Communications Department in NBAD, the solar powered ATM, currently located at the bank's Al Bateen Branch, is one of many that are expected to be used in the near future.
"We are planning to put 400 ATMs in various branches in the UAE in the near future ... the wonderful thing about these machines is that they are not costly and will provide our customers with the chance to contribute to helping the environment," he said.
Belinda Scott, Senior Manager of NBAD’s Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility, added "taking responsibility through using such cutting edge technology will not put extra pressure on electricity consumption and there are already other eco-friendly services being provided by banks, such as green debit and credit cards, which are made from recycled materials instead of plastic ones."
