Muscat : Oman will come under the spotlight as a model for sustainable development when BankMuscat hosts the Vale Columbia Centre on Sustainable International Investment Advisory Board meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The meeting on the theme "Partnering for Progress" will be hosted at the new landmark headquarters of BankMuscat.

The gathering assumes great significance and marks a new beginning for Oman in attracting sustainable foreign direct investment (FDI).

Shaikh Abdul Malek Bin Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of BankMuscat, is a founding member and the only Arab member on the Vale Columbia Centre Advisory Board, a leading forum for discussion by scholars, policymakers, development advocates and other stakeholders in issues related to foreign direct investment (FDI) in the global economy.

Public policies

The joint centre of Columbia Law School and The Earth Institute at Columbia University promotes the analysis of trends in FDI, the consequences of FDI for sustainable development and the consideration of appropriate public policies for sustainable foreign direct investment.

Its objectives are to analyse important topical policy-oriented issues related to FDI and develop and disseminate practical approaches and solutions to increase the contribution of FDI to sustainable development.

Drawing on its location at Columbia University, it provides students with a challenging learning environment and promotes teaching and learning about FDI worldwide.
