Dubai: Passengers who may be frustrated by the new ban on electronic devices can look on the brighter side of travelling on a long-haul flight.

Just hours after the United States government announced a security ban affecting flights from Muslim-majority countries, Emirates jumped at the opportunity to promote its inflight entertainment.

“Who needs tablets and laptops anyway?” goes the new intro of the airline’s video commercial that shows Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston explaining to a child what Emirates’ inflight entertainment can offer so that passengers don’t get bored.

“This thing has so many games and so many movies… It’s crazy,” Aniston says.

The United States government has announced it will bar passengers from carrying all forms of gadgets larger than a mobile phone aboard all non-stop flight originating from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and seven other Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East and Africa. The United Kingdom is also planning to impose a similar security policy.
