Dubai: Etihad Airways and Emirates passengers were met with disruptions on services in and out of Chicago’s O’Hare airport on Sunday as snow blanketed parts of the US Midwest.

An Etihad flight from Abu Dhabi to Chicago was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Toronto, Canada “due to weather conditions in Chicago”, an airline spokesperson said by email.

Passengers were provided hotel accommodation in Toronto “as the crew had reached their flight time limits following the diversion”.

The flight was rescheduled to depart Toronto at 7.15pm (EST) on Monday, arriving in Chicago at 8.15pm.

“As a result of the diversion, Etihad Airways flight EY150 from Chicago to Abu Dhabi on Sunday, February 1, has been cancelled,” the spokesperson said.

Affected passengers are being rebooked on Etihad’s Monday service.

Emirates flight EK236 from Chicago to Dubai on Sunday “was delayed due to weather conditions in Chicago”, an airline spokesperson said by email.

The flight is scheduled to arrive at Dubai International Airport on Monday night three hours behind schedule at 10.23pm, according to the Dubai Airports website.
