Dubai: Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways are warning a major winter storm to hit the United States east this weekend will affect flights to the country over the coming days.

Etihad Airways has cancelled services to and from Washington DC and New York on Saturday due to the deteriorating weather conditions in the US Northeast.

It is also warning passengers may face "significant disruptions," including cancellations, on all other flights to Washington DC and New York from January 23 and January 25, according to an emailed statement.

Etihad is allowing passengers travelling to Washington DC and New York this weekend to rebook their flights. It is also advising passengers travelling on these flights to contact the airline and check its website for the latest updates.

Qatar Airways issued a similar warning with a spokesperson telling Gulf News “we do expect the weather to impact our flights.” The airline is asking passengers to check its website for the latest status of their flight before travelling to the airport.

Qatar Airways flies to US eastern seaboard cities Washington DC, New York and Philadelphia. An Emirates spokesperson told Gulf News the storm has so far not affected services.
