Dubai: Emirates and Etihad Airways cancelled flights to and from Washington DC on Sunday as a historic winter blizzard continues to disrupt flights over the United States east coast.

Etihad’s flights to New York JFK also experienced significant delays due to the adverse weather conditions, the airline said in an emailed statement. On Saturday, Emirates cancelled eight services to and from New York JFK and Washington DC, including its daily flight from Milan, Italy. The airline also delayed Saturday’s EK 207 from Dubai to New York JFK scheduled to depart at 11am until 2am on Sunday. EK 208 New York HFK to Dubai was also affected with its scheduled departure time of 9:35pm on Saturday delayed until 6:40pm on Sunday.

Etihad cancelled flights to Washington DC and New York on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a Qatar Airways spokesperson told Gulf News by email the storm “has created significant operational challenges” for its flights to the US north east. Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways are advising passengers to check with the airline before travelling to the airport.
