Dubai: Flights between the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom were not affected by the St Jude storm lashing parts of Britain today.

Emirates and Etihad confirmed to Gulf News that as of midday on Monday no flights to the UK had been delayed or cancelled as a result of the storm battering parts of Britain.

However, London Heathrow and Gatwick airports advised passengers to check their flight status and allow extra time to reach the airport. Some rail services were cancelled.

“Severe weather is forecast for Heathrow, southern England and northern Europe,” Heathrow said on its website. “These weather conditions are likely to cause disruption to flights including cancellations.”

The airport said it had earlier cancelled 130 flights.
