Dubai: The UAE has suspended five air operators for not fulfilling safety and security requirements and for violating the air instructions applicable in the UAE, the country’s federal aviation regulator General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA, said in a statement today.

The GCAA said, it has informed the relevant authorities in the civil aviation sector in the UAE of its decisions regarding the suspension of air operation of certain foreign aircrafts in the UAE for reasons that have to do with noncompliance with the applicable safety and security standards in the UAE.

Under these decisions, five (5) air operators have been suspended to operate in the UAE during November 2010; a DC8-63F aircraft was suspended from operating in the UAE for undertaking maintenance at a UAE airport without obtaining a license from GCAA, a DC-9 aircraft was suspended from operating in the UAE space pursuant to a report by GCAA inspectors in respect of safety and security, and a B-747-200 was suspended for violating the air instructions applicable in the UAE. In addition to the suspension of the air operations of an L1011-500 aircraft for operating in the UAE without obtaining a license from GCAA.

The GCAA announced a total of 19 operators suspended in 2010.

“The GCAA, represented by its teams and inspectors, seeks to ensure that all aircrafts operating in the UAE comply with the highest international safety and security standards,” Saif Mohammad Al Suwaidi, Director General, GCAA, said.

“Being the authority in charge of the civil aviation sector in the UAE, the GCAA will not hesitate to take any action in the future against any aircraft and against any local or international air operator in the event of any violation of the applicable instructions in the UAE or noncompliance with any security and safety standard," he added.
