Dubai: Turkish Airlines, one of world’s fastest growing carriers, wants to operate a strict widebody fleet to fleet to destinations in the Arabian Gulf, a senior executive told Gulf News on Sunday.

The airline fly’s directly to all six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and operates to two cities in the UAE, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and to seven cities in Saudi Arabia.

“It’s my aim to change all aircraft to GCC countries to widebody,” Adem Ceylan, vice-president, marketing and sales (Middle East and Cyprus) said at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM).

Ceylan declined to state when all services would be upgraded to the larger aircraft,; Dubai and Abu Dhabi are already operated by wide body aircraft as are select services to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. However, he said there was sufficient demand pointing to the airlines decision to change its Muscat, Oman via Bahrain service to two separate direct flights.

Last year, Turkish Airlines Chief Executive, Temel Kotil, said he expects growth in the Middle East to slow due to bilateral constraints meaning they are unable to add frequencies.
