Saudi airline plans ladies branches in major cities

Saudi Arabian Airlines will shortly open exclusive ladies branches in Jeddah, Madinah and Dammam.

Riyadh: Saudi Arabian Airlines will shortly open exclusive ladies branches in Jeddah, Madinah and Dammam.

A new fleet of 20 aircraft will also join the national carrier soon, said Khalid Al Molhem, director general of Saudia.

Addressing a press conference marking the launch of this new version of the airline's Al Farsan Programme on Tuesday evening, Al Molhem said that the new branches will offer all the services being provided by other Saudia offices, including reservations and issuance of e-tickets.

"We plan to open branches for ladies in other cities of the kingdom in the near future," he said.

Referring to the new fleet of aircraft, Al Molhem said that 70 aircraft will join the carrier as part of its ambitious 10-year fleet expansion plan.

"We will take delivery of eight new Airbus A330 aircraft and 12 rented Boeing 787s in the near future," he said. adding that each one of the planes will accommodate 320 passengers.

"Saudia's fleet renewal will involve the carrier replacing its older Boeing 747s and Boeing MD-90s," Al Molhem said.

Meanwhile, Saudia has increased the price of tickets to nine international destinations. Al Molhem attributed the hike in ticket charges during the summer season to the rise in fuel prices. The national carrier has informed its agents that new lump sum charges will be levied on already issued tickets as of Sunday.

Fuel charges levied on round trip tickets will include $100 to Europe and South Africa and $90 in the Middle East.
