Dubai: Qatar Airways launched full commercial operations from Qatar’s newest airport, Hamad International, on Tuesday.

The shift over to the new airport by the Qatari carrier represents a significant milestone for Hamad International, which was marred by years of delays.

Qatar Airways flight QR1113 from Bahrain was the first flight to Hamad International, landing at 9.10am local time.

The new airport is located on the east coast of the peninsula and is 16 kilometres from the centre of Doha and four kilometres from Doha International, the old airport.
